I enjoy a good mystery and this was one of them! The plot is relevant in today's world, and the mystery kept me guessing till the end. I like that it has strong female characters, who are relatable. The storyline moved along flawlessly and kept me totally involved. I am happy this is the first book in the Gulfport Mystery series meaning there will be more excellent books to follow.

I found the women in this book to be people I want to know better. I was amazed how involved I became in this story. It gave me a better understanding of immigration and the issues before the people that want to legally become citizens. Totally kept my interest.

Wow! There is no way anyone could call this book cookie cutter. It is refreshing and not like anything I've ever read before. I loved it!This book will have book club members in deep discussions. Readers will have strong opinions. Some will love it. Others will not. But I doubt anyone will have a moderate opinion. It takes you to the edge of the cliff of the "willing suspension of disbelief" hanging on by fingernails you're grateful exist...Writing something this unique is hard to accomplish these days. Kudos, Alison!
Wonderful, believable characters

You'll be Hooked!
I'm kind of picky about what I read and I have to say that this book grabbed my attention quickly and kept me hooked throughout. Wonderful, believable characters, complex plot with lots of twists, very well written, and mentally engaging without making you work too, too hard to follow the story. This is the kind of book that you could read in one sitting because you can't put it down, but it's short chapters also make it perfect for those of us who only get to read in the time in between everything else.

Diane Wallace rated it really liked it
If anyone ask what's the meaning of those 4 words on the book? then i would really let them know that this book has so much going for it,lots of depth, lots of twist and turns plus from the beginning never take your eyes of the dates because these played a part in the plot-line and during the drama readers will eventually notice how the title of the book ended up coming into play into the seriousness of this great story, the pacing was good, love the research and info on dementia plus the topic of the foster care system..all the abuse and other stuff that takes..this book dealt with some heavy stuff and also an excellent side story i find very surprising and satisfying to the end..highly recommend

Reviews for Devoted
5.0 out of 5 starsGripping Suspense
ByRhoda L.on January 17, 2017 I do not often find books that I just cannot put down but Devoted was definitely one of them. Once I started I read through it in no time. Kudos to the author, Alison R. Solomon, on her second published suspense novel. I would definitely recommend Devoted to my book club. |
Carol Vitelli:
I am a suspense book junkie, and "Devoted" did not disappoint. Like Alison Solomon's previous book. "Along Came the Rain", once I started reading it I could not put it down. I love the lesbian characters who are engaging and interesting and not predictable, and enjoyed the references to Gulfport, Florida. A bonus for me was that once the suspect was identified, the book didn't end abruptly, instead there was resolution. I can't wait for the next one! |
Erica Raffel: "Devoted is a Compelling Mystery"
From the first chapter, the rhythm and pace of Alison Solomon’s “Devoted” exudes energy and a compelling mystery, and you don’t want to put it down. The characters are real and the author skillfully portrays their honesty in facing difficulties and uncomfortable circumstances: a sister truly happy for her own sister’s joy in marrying another woman in city hall, but admitting to herself that she would have had issues with that same wedding in a church. And then a whisper in her heart…..perhaps recognizing her own attractions and to whom she herself may be drawn…Read the full review here |
Kathleen Miller:
Hooks you from the First Chapter If you liked Alison R. Solomon's previous book, "Along Came the Rain," then you will love,"Devoted." The story hooks you from the very first chapter and you won't be able to put it down until you finish. One interesting thing about Solomon's use of differing points of view is that she causes us to change our feelings about the current narrator(s) as the story switches back and forth from others' points of view and her own. So you don't always know what you know! Looking forward to more suspense stories from A. R. Solomon. |
